First Time Scuba Dive Experience in Hikkaduwa – International Diving School

I was there at Mirissa Beach for a night, as I had already enquired about the Scuba Dive and Snorkelling experience at Hikkaduwa. And was not that excited about the dolphin watch experience at the Mirissa Brach. So, I took the first train at 4 AM in the morning towards Hikkaduwa.

Immediately after keeping my stuff at the Homestay, I headed over to the International Diving School. As I was planning for the first dive, thinking that the second dive would have required some waiting. And also it was too hot out there at the beach, making it impossible for anyone to wait.

Before heading to Hikkaduwa, I was planning just to try the snorkelling there. But later changed the plan to Scuba Dive, as I was excited to try this at least once in life. I chose the Discover Scuba Dive, package which included two dives. One at 2 metres where they show you how to use the signs while in the water and just check if you don’t panic while in the water. Only then you are taken to the 12 metres dive or refunded with some of the amount you paid. But before even the 1st dive you are taught on how everything works from the BCD suit to the different signs which are needed while you are underwater.

I was cool with the first dive, so was definitely heading towards the second. But I can tell you guys that even at just 2 metres I was able to see so many fishes all around me. Which made me more excited about the next dive at 12 metres to experience I don’t even know what.

The 2nd Dive of 12 Metres

It was a bad day to dive as the clouds were out and the visibility underwater wasn’t that great. But as I had just one day with me so I thought to take the chance, and next we were on the boat. Heading towards the deep, to experience the underwater life the time when you can float with the fishes. It is really an amazing experience to glide around those fishes and see some plants which glow in the deep. I had just no idea of whatever I saw there except that most of it were fishes. You start from 2 metres releasing pressure on every 2 metres you cross with the mask on your face. Holding the rope helping you to push yourself down, and actually, there is nothing to worry as the instructor is there with you always helping you to glide around the whole area and that you don’t hit the rocks.

That was it after the whole dive experience, which was something I would love to do again whenever I get the chance to. I was very thankful to everyone at the Diving School for making my day so far the best of my life. So I thanked them and then headed back towards the Homestay as I was feeling a little weird. As I vomited after the dive, which was a common thing many people did after their first dive.

It was hot like anything so instead of exploring Hikkaduwa Town, I just went to the Homestay to chill. And later came out to go towards the Galle Beach, to visit the Dutch Fort and Lighthouse there. While I was returning from the beach, the town was up and I saw many shops selling mostly water sports equipment some small hotels to grab some food. Where I had my lunch and went straight to my Homestay to rest. About the other half on what I did in the evening stay tuned next wednesday on my blog.
