Dudhsagar Falls in Goa | All you need to know

Dudhsagar Falls in Goa

Dudhsagar Falls in Goa is situated at the border of Goa and Karnataka. And after trip from Goa to Dudhsagar is totally worth it. Its 60kms from Panaji Goa by road so you can take a Taxi, Bus or even Train to reach there. For us we rented bikes which was great for exploring the road on our Off Season Adventure to Dudhsagar Falls.

This was my second time at Goa and Dudhsagar but the catch was avoiding Dudhsagar in Off Season. As due to heavy rains the rivers are on higher tides and reaching there is not possible. All Government Transport are stopped/banned and you can call it an illegal way to reach there this season. I read somewhere that people can take you there by paying a little more but no ways to reach there. So we thought of trying it out even if we don’t reach there the roads are worth to travel. And a win win situation either way.

It was our office outing where everyone gathered from different cities of our company to enjoy our recent fund round. After the awesome events I managed to grab a day holiday to fulfill my wanderlust by visiting Dudhsagar Falls in Goa. As it was Off Season in Goa so it wasn’t worth staying there and exploring the dead beaches.

After waving byes to everyone from the Hotel me and 3 friends booked a different stay at Madgaon. So we could have easy access to transportation in the morning to reach Dudhsagar Falls in Goa. We had our dinner at a random bar which had awesome Goan sausages and fish. To wake up early we immediately went to our rooms and slept. It was a chilly rainy morning we went out and rented two Scooters to take us to Dudhsagar. We also had our complimentary breakfast at our stay before starting. We had a huge breakfast as we had to cover up the road and yeah all was complimentary. Which was great so we thanked them and immediately moved out, filled our ride tanks and got on the road.

The Journey to Dudhsagar Falls in Goa

We had to cover 51kms which was a 2hours ride non-stop. We started at 9AM from Madgaon covering the city with beautiful colored houses, huts and churches. The houses with slopping roofs of asbestos as you can see in most raining areas to stop water collection on top. As its monsoon rains can come anytime so you will have to stop and start again multiple times. We stopped 3 times to reach the destination and an additional one not for the rain but the Policemen who caught us having an expired pollution certificate which was just 1 day ago for both the scooters. Then our friend discussed in their local language that it was a rented vehicle and we are just visiting places so they left us to continue our adventure.

We reached the spot where people can rent Government Vehicles and life jackets and goto the falls. But everything was closed and you can see policemen guarding the place. People can also get involved in other activities on an Off Season Adventure to Dudhsagar Falls which include Elephant Ride in the river, an Elephant Bath where it uses its trunk to throw water on the person sitting on it which is really awesome or you can see the Spice Garden with different plantation species and have a meal there cooked by them. But we needed to go ahead and cross the jungle and reach the Dudhsagar falls so we parked our scooters and asked people about it.

Options to Reach Dudhsagar…

There were different options to reach there one of which was open some days ago where people took you on bikes to the place. But due to weather conditions that was also banned. Some said that we can take the train to reach the falls and then trek 13kms down and then back 13kms which would have been great but we needed a huge buffer of time and 26kms is not that easy for everyone. So we let that option go and continued to ask for more.

We found a bunch of Gujarati people on the same venture as ours so we asked them if they found something to reach there. And to our surprise they had a guy who could walk us 3kms from the spot and then grab a Traveller car to Dudhsagar. We were ready for the same as it would take you 4-5 hours to go and return back. But the guy was still confirming on the driver to come there and take us in. And it was yeah illegal so he was not even letting us talk about the same to anyone else. So we waited but as the driver needed to confirm and time was running out.

In the end

We waited for an hour and with no confirmation we thought of leaving and visiting some beaches. So we first had lunch and went to Varca and Colva beach to just chill and close the day. As it was Off Season so we had less hopes of doing anything else. Most of the Water sports/restaurants were closed, less people on the beaches and higher tides so not much time in the water as the coast guards would whistle to stop you on going far. Then we travelled back to Madgaon to take our ride back home. But I would suggest you to take the trek on your Off Season Adventure to Dudhsagar Falls as the beauty of the falls will be great.
