Gangtok Ropeway – The View You Don’t Wanna Miss
We thought we were not late for the day, but who was checking the time. And remembered that the sun will go down early as we were in Sikkim. Our tour guide took us to a Chinese restaurant the Dynasty – Wine and Dine located just next to the ropeway entrance.
We wanted to experience the sunset while on the ropeway with the beautiful view of the valley. As the last ropeway ride which can be taken at 6 PM. The timings are quite related to the sunrise and sunset in Sikkim which starts at 6 AM morning and ends at 6 PM. So depending on when you can make it or the view you would love to see you can head there.
The food we had at Dynasty was awesome and I would suggest you guys try the momos there. The view from the left dining room is also epic with the valley in front of your eyes till you are done with your meal. We quickly wrapped up our lunch to not miss the ride as we had to make a video while going down and up showing the bothie feature with the view around. So maybe one ride was not enough for completing the same.
The Ropeway & Red Cable Car
The ropeway or cable car ride is about 1km long. Which starts from the deorali market being the lowest part of the ropeway and the high side being the Tashiling. We bought the tickets of Rs 300/person and took the lift to the floor at which the cable cars can be boarded. It was crowded with many people to try the same making it tougher to get a proper spot to record the moment as we needed. We waited for the first cable car to go thinking that the next one wouldn’t be that crowded.
But as the cable car started its journey to the other side more people joined us in the wait for the next car. So we planned to just grab a good spot to look at the view and also capture the #Bothie moment. It took us 3 rides to get the final shot, but yeah the ride was great one felt like you were flying on top of the valley. As we went to take the third ticket for the ride the lady was curious about what it was that we were taking the ride again and again. We just told her that it was our first and maybe last time here so we wanted to do the best as we can. Haha, a lame reason I know, but she bought it.
Mahatma Gandhi Marg/Road
Before closing the day and after our visit to the Himalayan Zoological Park and 3 rides on the ropeway. We headed over to MG Marg most famous market, you need to go if you are in Gangtok. Marg means Road in Hindi and MG being Mahatma Gandhi. Makes it the most important spot to be in all the cities of India. The place was lit with the crowd and so many shops around. With the locals shopping and relaxing on the benches laid down there. There are many restaurants and bars on both sides of the road. It was crowded may be due to the expo going on there that day or maybe it is always the same. We walked around the expo there were food stalls, some household stuff and the most interesting was the pickle shop with pickle made of jackfruit and other such fruits. The annual Gangtok Food and Culture Festival is also held at this place in December.
So that was the end of our first day at Gangtok after which we headed towards our room for dinner and sleep. To start fresh next day as we had a long journey to go if we got the pass to Changu Lake in the morning.

Awesum pictures,
Reminds me of my trip to Gangtok in 2k13. Its a surreal experience to hang in the middle of the air.
If you happen to hop there next time, search for ‘Mahjong Casino’. Not an easy place to find. But once you do, its the best party place you’ll ever find!!
Yeah, it is amazing in the middle :D. Sure will check that out.
